Hot or Not Trends – Bermuda Shorts

Runways are already overrun with upcoming spring fashions, and Bermuda shorts are making an appearance as the short to wear this season. With their slouchy style and ultra-flattering fit, these are the one pair of shorts that truly look good on every woman.

There are a number of ways to style these shorts, whether you want to dress them up or keep the relaxed & casual vibe. A pair of  beach-y espadrilles paired with a flow-y blouse works great with bermudas for a casual weekend outfit, or strap on a pair of pumps for a night on the town. Alternatively, pair with a tailored blazer for a look that mixes professionalism with casual cool, or pair your shorts with a belted tunic. Honestly, the choices are endless.

Bottom Line:

Bermuda shorts are super HOT for spring! What do you think? Do you agree with me, or do these shorts do nothing for you?

Hot or Not Trends – Sandal Boots

The latest trend to emerge for spring 2013 is the sandal boot, an unusual combination of a heeled open-toe sandal with a striking boot silhouette. This footwear style has been seen all over the runways, but is it truly a trend the real woman can tackle?

Forget the oddity of the combination, if you can, and instead look at the practical side of these kooky kicks. Wait… there isn’t one. We love boots, and we love strappy sandals, but the two combined leave much to be desired. While designers and fashion “experts” claim these shoes can add “glamour” and “mystery” to an outfit, we say it’s better to stick to one or the other.

Bottom Line:

Sandal boots are a NOT in every sense of the word. Do you agree with me, or do you think this unusual – albeit intriguing – combination is a must-have for next season?

Hot or Not Trends – Equestrian

This season, the equestrian trend has taken the fashion world by storm. Models are parading down runways wearing jodhpurs, riding boots, jackets with elbow patches… even those funny little hats that professional horse riders wear during competitions. My first reaction to this unusual trend was “WHAT?”

The “classic” equestrian style works perfectly if you’re entering a competition, but in the real world you’d be hard pressed to find a way to make this trend look stylish. While I am sure there are plenty of would-be fashionistas out there that would disagree with me, I defy you to come up with a real-world look based on the equestrian-inspired pieces we’ve seen on runways that wouldn’t make passersby stop and stare… and then laugh. Uproariously.

Bottom Line:

The equestrian trend is a definite NOT… unless you are a professional in the horse show circuit. Do you agree, or do you believe that equestrian-inspired fashion can, in fact, be worn on the average woman without looking odd? Sound off in the comments below.

Hot or Not Trends – Printed Jeans

Put away your stash of colored denim, ladies – for the upcoming spring season, the hottest trend in denim are vibrant graphics. Printed jeans are the next big thing for spring 2013, and come in a variety of patterns: florals, abstracts, geometric designs, stripes and more.

While your style options are nearly endless, the sleekest way to wear printed jeans is to look for a small print on a dark background. Of course, those who wish to make a statement can always opt for a large, bold design, lighter colors, or a multi-patterned pair that will truly look unique. However you choose to wear them, keep in mind that skinnies or straight-legs are the best silhouette to wear with this trend.

Bottom Line:

Printed jeans are definitely HOT. Do you agree with me, or would you rather stick to your tried-and-true denim to celebrate the start of a new season?

Hot or Not Trends – Cigarette Jeans

Move over, skinnies – there’s a new jean trend in town, and it’s infinitely more wearable than its skin-tight counterpart. Cigarette jeans are the latest denim trend this season, and while they have the look of your favorite skinny pair they are much more comfortable - and flattering – on nearly every woman.

While you can certainly wear flats with these jeans, heels are the preferred footwear of choice depending on the hem length. For heels, you want the hem of your cigarette jeans to fall about midway down the height of your heel. For flats, your hem should hit about one inch above the bottom of your shoe. As for what to pair cigarette jeans with, your options are endless. They can be casual or dressy, depending on how you choose to style them. Because of their versatility, cigarette jeans are definitely a go-to favorite in any woman’s closet.

Bottom Line:

Cigarette jeans are HOT, hot hot! Do you agree with me, or do you dread the thought of pushing aside your beloved skinny jeans for a season?

Hot or Not Trends – Trench Coats

Because of their streamlined silhouette and versatility, trench coats are seeing a resurgence in popularity this season. The ideal coat to wear from day to night, the classic trench can be a wardrobe staple all season long.

Unlike “trendier” overcoats, the trench coat boasts a classic design and figure-flattering lines that look good on nearly every woman. Arguably, the trench coat is a wardrobe staple that can be worn for years to come, making it an exceptional investment piece. When choosing a trench coat, look for a belted, knee-length version (or a little shorter) in a neutral color such as black or navy. This ensures your investment piece will remain relevant and on-trend for years after most overcoats go out of style.

Bottom Line:

Trench coats are 100% HOT! Do you agree with me, or do you feel the trench has had its fifteen minutes of fame?
